Dead Can Dance at Warsaw Torwar 21st June 2019

This was always going to be a massive experience, seeing Dead Can Dance at Warsaw Torwar last Friday night.

Over the years, for one reason or another, getting to see Dead Can Dance has been like searching for the Holy Grail, but last Friday, I finally got to see them.

It's wonderful how Lisa Gerrard and Brendan Perry complement each other, their voices are so richly different.

My favourite Dead Can Dance tune is 'In Power We Entrust The Love Advocated', and it was fantastic to hear this live, but my favourite tune of the night was 'The Promised Womb', it's beautiful medieval-type melody enveloped every inch of the vast Torwar Hall.

Amazing how up to two weeks ago, I'd never seen Dead Can Dance or Lisa Gerrard or Brendan Perry live solo. But in the space of the last two weeks, I've seen Lisa Gerrard with The Mystery of Bulgarian Voices and then Dead Can Dance last Friday.

Had a ticket to see Brendan Perry in Warsaw in 2011, but had to return to Britain for a few months while my mother was dying. In this respect, the Dead Can Dance concert last Friday made me think of my late mother.

Two Bottles of Perła

Stopped off at a nice, gladed, old-fashioned bar for a couple of bottles of Perła on my way to seeing Dead Can Dance at Warsaw Torwar last Friday night.

Kurt Vile and The Violators at Warsaw Proxima 19th June 2019

What a fantastic night this was, absolutely loved it. Great music, wonderful balmy atmosphere, good view from the bar.

Wonderful set by the band: Loading Zones; Check Baby; I'm an Outlaw; Puppet to the Man; Wild Imagination etc.

First time I've seen Kurt Vile, and it was magical, it had an old school feel.

Warsaw Stodoła Bar Area

A few shots from upstairs capturing a bit of the atmosphere at the Warsaw Stodoła bar before The Mystery of Bulgarian Voices with Lisa Gerrard concert last week:

People seemed happy getting their refreshments before what turned out to be a wonderful concert:

The Mystery of Bulgarian Voices and Lisa Gerrard - Warsaw Stodoła 10th June 2019

My highlight of last week, The Mystery of Bulgarian Voices with Lisa Gerrard at Warsaw Stodoła, it was truly absorbing stuff.

Can't claim to know the titles of many of the tunes by The Mystery of Bulgarian Voices, but still recognised a few by the melody.

Of course, I recognised Lisa Gerrard's 'Now We Are Free', the 'Gladiator' theme tune and final encore of the night.

But my favourite tune of the night was 'Mani Yanni', this is the kind of song that makes you reflect on your whole life in a few condensed minutes, and I still have the beautiful melody playing in my head.

Love dreamscape concerts, they allow you to get out of the rat-race temporarily, to relax and reflect on more profound things.

Was also nice to see Lisa Gerrard for the first time, listened to her solo work a lot around 2003-2004 when I first moved to Warsaw.

Tim Bowness Live at Warsaw Progresja 2nd June 2019

Thoroughly enjoyed Tim Bowness at the Progresja on Monday night.

Loved the No-Man classic, 'Wherever There Is Light',

And brilliant tunes from the new album like 'Killing to Survive' and 'Not Married Anymore'.

Love melancholia when it's well done.
