Spring Daffodils

Was good to see these spring daffodils, they always remind me of the Wordsworth poem that my grandmother from my mother's side used to recite parts of to me as a child:

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed—and gazed—but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

A Knobbly Tree

Couldn't take my eyes off this knobbly tree which I came across at the Citadel in Warsaw.

A Small Wicker Man

Passed this small wicker man at the Citadel in Warsaw at the weekend.

Every time I see any kind of wicker man, I can't help but think of the classic Wicker Man film with Edward Woodward, of course.

Also saw the interesting Wicker Gate structure below near the Citadel walls.

An Earth-Worm Swimming Pool Cover

This swimming-pool cover down near the Citadel in Warsaw caught my eye, as it reminds me of a giant earth-worm.

Have seen such constructions in a few places in Warsaw, but can't recall ever seeing them in Britain.

Passing a Cycling Mural

Really liked this kind of old-fashioned cycling mural that I passed the other week.

And this electricity advertisement nearby was interesting too:

Kotek's Computer Game

For quite some time, Kotek was spellbound with this computer game where mice periodically appear on some kind of pool table.

At one point, Kotek had his paws on the tablet screen trying to catch the passing mice.

Passing an Artist's Place

Down near the Citadel again, and this time passing an artist's place, who leaves his work outside for people to observe:

The Jewish Museum Under a Dark Sky

Passing the Jewish Museum in Warsaw a few weeks ago.

When there was a bit of snow on the ground and a dark sky. The dark sky, museum, and monument all seem to merge into one below:

The Citadel Birdbox

A few shots of a bird-box high up in a tree in Warsaw Citadel.

Such bird-boxes can be seen all over the place in Warsaw which is a genuinely quite green city.

Hope that the small birds find the bird-boxes useful.

Spring Pushing Through

Spring pushing through a few weeks ago, in the form of sprouting crocus.

Always look out for this kind of thing, as one of my earliest memories is of planting crocus with my late mother.

Good Friday 2022

Passing a crucifix in the hallway of a Catholic church in Warsaw while attending the Old Latin Mass today (Good Friday).

Another crucifix that I saw when passing the back of a red-bricked, Gothic Catholic Church below:

Passing a Cats' Cafe

Passing a Cats' Cafe in the Inflancka area of Warsaw.

People can go in to have something to eat and drink, and more importantly, sit and relax with the resident cats.

A Hobbit-Type Door

Whenever I pass this mysterious small door down near the Citadel in Warsaw, I cannot help but imagine hobbits coming in and out of it.

Read The Lord of the Rings a few years ago, but still haven't got round to reading The Hobbit.

There's also an air of mystery about the tunnel below:

Which can be found down some steps not far from the hobbit-type door.

Dying Trees

Really sad to see lots of fungus-infested trees dying round Warsaw.

The one below that has tragically perished (almost) reminds me of a horizontal cross or crucifix:

A Circular Block of Flats

I quite often pass this circular-shaped block of flats, it makes a nice change from all the square and rectangular-shaped blocks that I see in Warsaw.

I guess that some of the rooms must be an interesting shape inside.

My Chinese Meal

My Chinese meal: tofu and vegetables washed down with a fresh green tea, all great stuff for a healthy stomach.

Citadel in the Snow

Was nice to catch the last snow at the Citadel in Warsaw last Sunday.

The building below was in the process of being renovated:

As usual, the arches looked great in the distance:

And fresh-looking branches had firmly shot up on bent-over trees:

Like the balance of nature and man-made things at the Citadel:

Was amazing what I saw when I reached up to the sky:

Warsaw Arkadia Shopping Centre at Sundown

From passing Warsaw Arkadia shopping centre a few Sundays ago, when it was still going dark early.

Not a massive fan of shopping centre advertisements, but outside Arkadia, things are done rather well.

Think that a lot of this attractive advertising is for upcoming films at Cinema City inside Arkadia.

It all certainly adds a bit of colour to the air.

Crow Looking Through a Window

Nice couple of shots I got of a crow looking through somebody's window in Warsaw.

He just seemed to be an inquisitive type.

Snow on the Branches

Never expected the snow to stick,

But stick it did,

And it looked incredibly beautiful on the tree branches,

It gave a kind of Christmas feel,

In early spring:

Snow on April Fools' Day

Yeah, it was officially the start of spring last weekend, but somehow, it just managed to dip below zero and snow on April Fools' Day.

Quite amazing considering that it has fluttered between about 10 and 17 degrees Celsius recently.
