Lizz Wright - Warsaw Praga Centrum (24-04-23)

What a night this was, absolutely fantastic, Lizz Wright at Praga Centrum in Warsaw.

Lizz has an incredible voice and a wonderful band, and the crowd were treated to Coming Home; Hit the Ground; Grace; Old Man (Neil Young classic) etc.

Forty minutes before the gig, I turned up at the Teatr Roma in central Warsaw to be informed that the show had been switched to Praga Centrum across the river in the city.

Fortunately, I know my way around Warsaw quite well and 30 minutes later, after two quick metro rides, I was at Praga Centrum.

When Lizz came on stage, she joked that she'd been expecting to sing in a beautiful theatre but still the Praga Centrum room "had its own kind of vibe". This was a great way of seeing things, of course.

A few good or unusual things about Praga Centrum: you can take shots from the side of the stage while visiting the toilets:

The toilets are kind of unique:

And you can get a very good (albeit expensive) Pilsner beer there:

Overall, it was an honour to see Lizz Wright and her great band.

RPWL - Warsaw Progresja (13-04-23)

The highlight of last week was seeing RPWL at Warsaw Progresja on Thursday evening.

The band came on with the whole of their recently released album, Crime Scene, which worked really well:

All six tunes off Crime Scene are real gems, but if I had to pick a couple of favourites, they would be Victim of Desire and A Cold Spring Day in '22.

Into the second half of the show, the crowd were treated to a nice balance of RPWL favourites, with Unchain the Earth being the standout tune for me.

The band receiving a well-earned round of applause at the end of the show below:

A Beautiful Street

Passing a beautiful white street in Warsaw yesterday:

Really like the way the trees dominate the street.

Easter Sunday (Empty Tomb)

The Empty Tomb of Jesus from the Old Latin Mass in Warsaw today.

Outside, it seemed like the white blossom was celebrating Easter Sunday:

Kotek in the Grass

Kotek relaxing in a tray of grass on a window sill in Warsaw.

Until I met Kotek, I never knew that cats sometimes eat grass.

Kotek eats grass from time to time, but much prefers his beef in gravy, of course.

Holy Thursday

The reading of the Last Gospel during the Old Latin (Tridentine) Mass at the Church of St. Andrew and St. Albert in Warsaw this evening.

Was really glad this Mass took place at 8.30 in the evening as I was working during the day.

Allotment World Ready for Life

These shots were from a few weeks ago when there was a thin film of snow on the ground.

But still, it looks like the allotment plots, near the Arkadia shopping centre in Warsaw, are getting ready to come to life again.

Think that such allotment plots offer some kind of half-escape from the hustle and bustle of big city life.

Especially if lots of trees and buses block out the busy roads outside.

Have passed this allotment settlement for many years, but this is probably the first time I've taken proper notice of it.

The building below looks (almost) like a communal place:

But looks somewhat out of place, a bit too tidy and orderly, reminiscent of the world outside.

Still, most of this allotment world looks like the scene in the shot below.

Branch-fenced and partly hidden.
