Tempio Pausania (Sardinia): Museum of Small Nativity Scenes

When we saw the building above, we just naturally assumed it would be another church in Tempio Pausania:

But rather unusually, it turned out to be a museum of small nativity scenes:

Which also contained quite a lot of Catholic statues:

Sardinia: La Maddalena Town Centre

Caprera, La Maddalena (Sardinia): Garibaldi Compendium

Towards the end of our trip, we visited the Garibaldi Compendium at Caprera, La Maddalena.

And outside there was a white statue honouring Garibaldi (1807-1882) with the sky and sea sitting in the background:

Barumini (Sardinia): 'Su Nuraxi' Nuragic Site

The shots here are from our visit to the 'Su Nuraxi' Nuragic archaeological site at Barumini in mid-Sardinia.

Like most places I visit, I never knew anything about 'Su Nuraxi' or the ancient Nuragic civilisation of Sardinia before visiting the place which allowed me to more directly/aesthetically experience it (if this makes any sense):

 

Have just found out from the Internet that 'Su Nuraxi' consists of a bastion ('nuraghe') of four corner towers plus a central one and a village, with the bastion being said to date back to 1700 BC and the village said to have been inhabited between the 13th and 6th centuries BC.

Was able to survey the surrounding yellow fields from the top of the bastion:

Below, you get a sense of the atmosphere inside the 'nuraghe', a sense of going back deep in time:

I guess that the part of the 'nuraghe' below may have had a religious function:

Oristano (Sardinia): Old City Walls

Here's a few shots from the Old City Walls in Oristano.

Just read that in medieval times, Oristano was one of the most powerful places in Sardinia.

Sardinia: Roast Pork in the Mountains

Up in the Sardinian mountains, we were treated to a traditional meal of pork, potatoes and onions.

After the meal, which was washed down with excellent jugs of local red wine, we were treated to a short concert by some genuinely talented, local folk singers:

La Maddalena (Sardinia): Sausage Dog

Came across this tired-looking sausage dog in La Maddalena which seemed to be getting respite from the sun indoors.
