Was walking on High Street East in Dorchester and immediately sensed that this place, the Kings Arms Hotel, must've had some connection with Thomas Hardy.
Just read that the Kings Arms was originally an old coaching inn and features in 'Far from the Madding Crowd'; 'The Trumpet Major'; and, of course, 'The Mayor of Casterbridge'.
Have also just been reminded that in 'The Mayor of Casterbridge', Michael Henchard does most of his official business as mayor from the Kings Arms.
