Warpaint - Warsaw Progresja (28th May, 2022)

Two days before the gig, I decided to get a ticket, and so glad that I did.

It would've been mad to have missed the highly melodic and enigmatic Warpaint.

The subtle-changing back-screen seemed to be reserved for new tunes like Champion and Stevie, and the audio-visual thing worked very well.

But it was the older tunes like Krimson and Love is To Die that I was waiting for.

Of which, New Song was my favourite tune of the night.

A Metallic Chimney

Passed this interesting-looking, metallic chimney while walking round the Citadel in Warsaw the other week.

Lost To Globalisation

An old drinking bar near Metro Gdański in Warsaw, which was frequented by many men for the cheap beer, was lost to globalisation ('progress') some time ago.

Also, a few traditional-looking places down by the riverside seem to be redundant:

They just look surplus to requirement:

Passing Warsaw Palladium

When I got to Warsaw Palladium, the locked doors revealed that the Van Der Graaf Generator concert had been cancelled (wishing Peter Hammill a speedy recovery, of course).

The plaque on the Palladium wall revealed that the place had played a significant role during the Warsaw Uprising in the 2nd World War:

Having read the above, I decided to take a few shots of the urban landscape near the Palladium:

And came across some rather interesting, modern buildings:

Such buildings offered proof that not all modern architecture has to be ugly.

And, eventually, my eyes came to focus on building work that was ongoing near the Palace of Culture:

Seems that slowly but surely, from all angles, the Palace of Culture is being kind of surrounded.

Passing Some Clay Tennis Courts

Saw these huge green, canvas structures down by the river in Warsaw.

Had a quick peep inside one of them, and discovered that clay tennis courts lay inside the big green 'tents':

Thought that people only really focused on fishing and canoeing down by the river:

Schiller (and Michał Łapaj) - Warsaw Progresja 21-05-22

Mainly out of curiosity, I saw Schiller at Warsaw Progresja last Saturday.

Had a general idea of Schiller's kind of trance-electronica-dance music, but it was the dance tracks with the two great female vocalists, such as Let Me Love You and Playing With Madness which left the greatest impression on me.

To be honest, being a bit of a Prog buff, I went to the Schiller concert more to see the opening act, Michał Łapaj (Riverside keyboard player):

And ended up enjoying both acts, of course.

It was especially great to see Mick Moss (Antimatter vocalist) sing on stage again, especially the incredibly haunting and moving, Shattered Memories, one of the highlights from the debut Michał Łapaj album.

Larkin Poe - Warsaw Proxima (23-05-22)

What a wonderful night this was, been a long time since I've seen a band with such a Southern feel, absolutely loved the slide guitar.

She's a Self-Made Man is a perfect coming on song, but the highlights of the set for me were the tunes with Gospel overtones: Holy Ghost Fire and John The Revelator.

The atmosphere during the gig was electric, it reminded me of seeing Southern bands like Blackfoot and the Georgia Satellites back in the 1980s.

There really is something special about seeing a Southern band live, a great atmosphere in the air.

Spring Tulips

Spring tulips on the way down to the river from the Citadel in Warsaw.

Nice to see spring coming more and more to life, of course.

Power Plant on the River

Approaching a power plant on the river in Warsaw.

It's a pleasant, couple of mile walk from the Citadel.

Riverside Walk: Away From The Crowds

From the Citadel in Warsaw, I walked a short distance to the riverside.

But instead of walking by the riverside towards the Old Town, I went the opposite direction were groups of people became more sparse:

This was far more peaceful, much more my style, somewhere to relax.

And think about things.

Occasionally seeing the beavers' handiwork:

Well, hope it was the beavers' work rather than an axe.

The Buddha Cat

Met this wonderful Buddha cat down near the Citadel in Warsaw recently.

He was a wise and friendly character, as he meowed and allowed me to stroke him.

Hope to see the Buddha cat on his perch again, some day soon, of course.

Passing the Polish Olympic Centre

Every now and again, I chance upon a modern-looking building that impresses me, which was the case when I encountered the Polish Olympic building near the riverside in Warsaw:

Thus, I ended up spending a bit of time scouting around the outside of the building, looking at the latter from different angles.

And came across several statues devoted to different sporting disciplines:

The boxing statue below really caught my eye:

I sometimes do a bit of boxing training through watching instructional training sessions on YouTube (e.g. by Tony Jeffries) and feel a hundred dollars after each session.

Overall, the Polish Olympic Centre gave me a nice 15-minute or so stop-off point during a great riverside walk I did a couple of Sundays ago.

Emilia: Waiting for Kotek

In eastern Poland, Emilia has been patiently waiting for Kotek.

She has been doing a great job looking after the barn during winter, she's a very good 'mouser'.

Spiral Staircase at the Riverside

Love this spiral staircase by the riverside in Warsaw.

It's an incredible piece of design work:

And a great place for getting a view above the river.

It lies near the Citadel Bridge where trams cross over the river:

This is a great place for taking pictures.
