Decent Enough Accommodation (in Kraków)

Through accident rather than design, we passed through the front door of our digs in Kraków (near the main train station).

With the help of a couple of good Polish lads, we then got through a strange coding system and got into our room, with Wobbler liking the picture of Marilyn Monroe:

The digs were cheap and okay, just wish there'd been some kind of reception and not a strange coding system.

A Weird Kiosk and the Wicker Man

A weird kind of kiosk that I passed in Warsaw the other day.

Also, things like graffiti are a big thing in Warsaw:

And down at the Citadel, I passed this Wicker Man:

Which, of course, made me recall the classic Wicker Man film with Edward Woodward (plus Christopher Lee and Britt Ekland).

The Wicker Man above does seem to have a malevolent face, it must be said.

Kraków: A Few Random Shots

A few random shots from last months visit to Kraków.

While having a walk round Kraków Old Town, we sometimes got a bit off the beaten track, but always bumped into some beautiful buildings:

That's the beauty of visiting a great city like Kraków.

Everywhere you look, there's something worth taking a shot of.

Of course, I loved the steep, red Gothic church above.

Sunshine at Mass

From a few weeks ago, outside in the sunshine, at the Old Latin Mass.

Once my eyes were keyed in, I was able to see the High Altar in the distance.

Really like going to the Tridentine Mass in Warsaw (or anywhere else), Sunday wouldn't be the same without it.

The War on Drugs - Warsaw Progresja Letnia Scena (12-06-23)

Happily found myself next to the mixing desk when up at the Progresja Summer Stage to see The War on Drugs on Monday:

The War on Drugs were fantastic coming on with Pain, followed by I Don't Wanna Wait; Strangest Thing; Harmonia's Dream etc. (one great tune followed by another throughout the whole gig).

Try as I might, I struggled to get a decent shot of the gig from distance with my i-phone:

It was a blustery evening and the temperature dropped quite dramatically from the daytime to the evening, so a massive credit to the band playing so well on stage.

Loved every song in the set, especially the spell-binding Under the Pressure.

This was the first time I've seen The War on Drugs and it was a brilliant experience, hope to see them again, one day, of course.

Steep Steps to Warsaw Old Town

Wobbler on the steep steps that lead up to the Old Town from the Dancing Fountains in Warsaw.

Near the top of the steps there was some kind of profound advice written in English (not Polish):

And not too far away, just outside the Old Town at another side, there was a bar selling the wonderful Zwierzyniec beer (from Eastern Poland) on draught:

A Good Chinese Place

My friend, Wobbler, during his recent visit outside a decent Chinese place in the Wolska district of Warsaw.

The beef and vegetables and Vietnamese green tea are good at this place.

Purple Flower

Love the incredible design of this purple flower that I passed the other day.

Corpus Christi Procession in Warsaw

After the Old Latin Mass yesterday, there was a short Corpus Christi procession around the four altars inside the Redemptorist church:

Then, while walking near St. Faustina's shrine church, I caught up with a big outside procession.

After the cross-bearer, the nuns, a lot of them quite young, marched behind:

And then a group of priests:

With one priest, under canopy, carrying the monstrance containing the Blessed Sacrament:

And the procession turned a corner to stop at the first outside altar:

This first outside altar was being looked after by a small group of nuns:

And the procession then continued down the street:

Making its way to another outside altar:

After the prayers and devotions at this altar, the procession made its way to its final destination, an altar outside a big, red-bricked, Gothic-looking church:

And I caught sight of the tuba and trumpet players set in the middle of the crowd:

Catching this outside procession was a blessing after attending the Old Latin Mass on Corpus Christi.

Interpol - Warsaw Stodoła (7-06-23)

Finally got to see Interpol yesterday:

As expected, it was thoroughly enjoyable.

Toni and Obstacle 1 worked really well as a couplet to kick things off.

And the songs I was less familiar with (e.g., Take You on a Cruise; My Desire) worked a treat too.

And Slow Hands was the perfect closing out song, it just has that kind of energy.

Was also really nice that Paul Banks gave a big shout out to the "beautiful vibe" inside the hall.

Kraków Churches: Shelter from the Rain

During the recent visit to Krakow for the Peter Gabriel concert, it was raining more or less all day.

So, like many other people, we took shelter in the city centre's many beautiful churches:

Really like the church below with the statues of the Twelve Apostles outside:

I have a massive respect for the Poles taking such good care of their churches:

With other visitors, we walked round this great church in complete silence.

It was great to see beautiful churches being respected properly.

With the rain continually pouring down outside:

Love the horse and carriage above too, of course.
