Julia Marcell: Warsaw Orange Festival Pictures

Few shots of highly respected Polish artist Julia Marcell from the tent stage on 4th June at the Orange Festival:

As you can see, Julia Marcell cuts quite a colourful figure on stage:

I've caught a bit of Julia Marcell's music here and there over the last few years (my favourite tune being 'Manners') with me kind of quite liking her without ever giving her the sustained listening she obviously deserves.
 

True to form, I only caught about 30 minutes of the Julie Marcell set here, as I was multi-tasking, watching somebody else on the main stage and getting a beer in.

Skunk Anansie Live at Warsaw Orange Festival 3rd June 2016

Not that mad on Skunk Anansie but after a quick drink, I thought I'd have a walk down to the main stage to catch some of their set, and I'm glad I did.

The first few tunes were quite heavy and vocalist Skin, in particular, got the crowd whipped-up.

Was easy to see that Skin is a great frontwoman as she 'played' with the cameramen which was really good fun.

'Weak' was always going to be my favourite tune, but another song that was always going to catch my attention was 'God Loves Only You' which Skin dedicated to all 'religious fanatics':

Obviously, both the thematic message and the backdrop on stage made this tune interesting:

However, after the song, I couldn't help but reflect on why so many bands and artists are willing to have a go at religion in general without pinpointing the obvious that the vast majority of religious fanatics come from Sunni Islam.  Guess that the latter is never done because bands and artists value their lives, this being perfectly understandable, of course.

There was a nice visual backdrop-musical unity throughout the whole of the Skunk Anansie set.

Not far from the end of the 90-minute or so set, I started retreating to get another beer, more than happy that I'd gone down to the main stage to catch Skunk Anansie:

Sorry Boys: Warsaw Orange Festival Pictures

Nice few shots from Polish band Sorry Boys at Warsaw Orange Festival on June 3rd:

Recognised a few of the tunes such as 'Salty River' and 'Evolution (St. Theresa)'.

Saw Sorry Boys a few years ago at (the now closed-down) Warsaw Basen, so I knew it'd be a good idea to catch them again.
 

The Waterboys Live at Warsaw Klub Progresja 6th June 2016

Was working late yesterday evening so I only just got up in time to catch The Waterboys at a packed out Klub Progresja, thus, the watercolour-type pictures from the back of the crowd.

Really nice to see a band that I'm more familiar with, as The Waterboys did a roaring set ('Still a Freak'; 'A Girl Called Johnny'; 'Glastonbury Song'; 'Raggle Taggle Gypsy'; 'The Whole of the Moon'; 'Fisherman's Blues' etc.)

However, the real transcendental part of the set had to be the 11-12 minute 'Long Strange Golden Road', it was magical.

Now seen The Waterboys three times over the years:  at Glastonbury in 1989; the Ramsbottom Festival (in my hometown Bury, Lancashire) in 2011; and last night at the Klub Progresja in Warsaw.

Warsaw Orange Festival 2016: Walking Round the Site

Just some shots out and about the Warsaw Orange Festival site here, starting with the beer stands away from the two stages where you could buy the almost 6% Tyskie:

On the first day, it was easy to come here and have a drink between the bands, but on the second day, it was more difficult with the acts on the two stages often overlapping.

Near the beer stands, there were also several forms of entertainment for the festival-goers to get involved in:

And the tent stage was very useful for taking cover during the wet first couple of hours of the second day of the Festival when it was pouring down:

The Editors Live at Warsaw Orange Festival 4th June 2016

Here's a few of my shots from The Editors at Warsaw Orange Festival on 4th June:

Like many of the acts at the Festival, I watched The Editors out of curiosity, knowing them in passing but not really knowing what to expect.

 

Of course, I enjoyed the tunes I recognised, especially 'Papillon'.

Surprisingly, I recognised about half of the set without knowing the names of the tunes which I'm now looking up ('Sugar'; 'Life Is a Fear'; 'Honesty' etc.).

Really like it when I follow my instinct well, as with The Editors here at the Orange Festival.  Think I'm right in saying that the 4th June line-up wasn't as appetising as the line-up the day before, but I followed my instinct/curiosity, went on June 4th, and was rewarded with a brilliant performance from The Editors.

Blossoms: Warsaw Orange Festival Pictures

A couple of weeks before the Warsaw Orange Festival, I checked out Blossoms on Youtube, and kind of decided they weren't really my kind of thing.

However, towards the end of the Lana Del Rey set on the main stage, I was making my way out of the Festival site, when I heard some storming tune coming from the tent stage, and had to go and investigate what was going on:

And, of course, it was Blossoms just arriving on stage and playing some really, really wonderful tunes:

More or less always like a band with a keyboard player:

Yeah, in the end, I was really happy I caught Blossoms.
