Warsaw Zoo: Penguin Social Life

Found myself observing penguin anthropology for about 20 mins at Warsaw Zoo yesterday:

They seemed intent on negotiating how to go about things in a group, with, at different times, various leaders giving the final decision to go in the water for the fish or not:

After the leader, most of the rest followed, but when some came out of the water with fish in their mouths and dropped them, a few others were lying in wait to steal the fish.

Have often heard it said that penguins have a social life mirroring that of humans, and there did seem to be a clear resemblance.

Warsaw (Poland): A Curious Building

From time to time, I pass this building, positioned somewhere between the Arkadia shopping centre and Marymont metro station:

I know the right side of the building is a church, but it's the left side of the building, where the bus is near above, which makes me curious, not knowing whether it's a convent or in another way connected to the church, or not connected to the church at all. 

Have just never got round to answering this question.

Love this blackboard which I saw in the fresh fish section of a Polish supermarket.

It seems to be a nice piece of irony with a penguin thinking about what food to buy (beans, pierogi etc.).

Warsaw (Poland): Passing Another War Memorial

Passed this war memorial the other day. 

Wherever you go in Warsaw, you'll find lots of such war memorials on the streets. 

With the ageing process, they blend in with the colour of the streets, they're natural parts of the streets, that's the way it is.

Another Good Połczyńskie Beer

Another great Połczyńskie beer here, this time the 5% Słodowe.  This smooth, natural-tasting beer is best served ice-cold for a really refreshing taste, especially on a nice, balmy, summer evening.

Haken (Rendezvous Point and Arkentype) Live at Warsaw Klub Progresja 11th June 2016

Really enjoyed Haken at Warsaw Klub Progresja, high-quality Prog for a Saturday night, just the tonic.

My favourite tunes of a great set were '1985' and 'Cockroach King'.

Have only become familiar with Haken over the last year or two and have come to really like their unique sound.

Find it difficult to describe their 'brand' of Prog, but their music kind of reminds of a synthesis of Gentle Giant, King Crimson and Leprous (if this is imagineable).

Anyway, a 100-minute or so set simply flashed by with the crowd in awe of wonderful musicianship.  Below, the band are about to take a bow at the end of the set:

Got up to the Progresja at about 7.30 last night expecting Norwegian Prog band Rendezvous Point to be on at this time, but things seemed to be running behind schedule, so I ended up watching another Norwegian band Arkentype too:

With all the choppy guitar work, Arkentype are not really my kind of thing.

But with their non-stop energy, they were interesting.

During one song, the band members sequentially made their way down from the stage to play on the floor encircled by a happy, smiling crowd:

Then after Arkentype, I got to see Rendezvous Point:

Would love to see Rendezvous Point do a 90-minute set, as the 45 minutes served up last night had me gagging for more.
