Dead Meadow Live at Warsaw Hydrozogadka 10th June 2010

First came across Dead Meadow through a John Peel session that I recorded from either the late 1990s or early 2000s.

Then through one thing or another, I kind of completely lost touch with the band.

Still, when I saw that they would be playing the Hydrozogadka in Warsaw a couple of months ago, it didn't take much convincing to get a ticket.

 

And the Hydrozogadka concert itself, I absolutely loved it, no nonsense, little speaking, just non-stop music.

The highlight of the night being the final tune, the incredibly beautiful 'At Her Open Door'.

After spending half of the show down near the front, I retired towards the back to have 2-3 beers:
 

Glad to say that the Hydrozogadka still sells Perła, one of Poland's better beers (was last down here 3-4 years ago to see The Boxer Rebellion).

Weedpecker Live at Warsaw Hydrozagadka 10th June 2016

Until last night, I'd never heard of Polish band, Weedpecker.

Really enjoyed watching them open for Dead Meadow at the Hydrozagadka last night:

From the internet, I can see that they're described as a stoner band, but I can kind of hear a few more things going on in their music, a few Rush-type and Seattle-type sounds, which made them, for me, very interesting:

Nice to see the bassist wearing a Rush 'Starman' t-shirt' (Rush are my all-time favourite band - been blessed to have seen them 11 times between 1980 and 2013):

Yeah, will be giving Weedpecker a good listening today to check them out more.

Warsaw Orange Festival 2016: Final Bus Stop Scene

My last shot connected with the 2016 Warsaw Orange Festival:  waiting for the bus to Wilanowska metro station.

Caught some of Danish singer MO's (can't get the elegant O here) set on the main stage at Warsaw Orange Festival, but didn't see it all as I was multi-tasking between this; Julia Marcell at the tent stage; and getting a decent beer away from the stages:

Despite MO's 'electro-pop' not being exactly my kind of music, I really enjoyed what I saw of her, especially when she did the infectious 'Walk This Way'.

Must also say that MO has a great band, especially the drummer:

Julia Marcell: Warsaw Orange Festival Pictures

Few shots of highly respected Polish artist Julia Marcell from the tent stage on 4th June at the Orange Festival:

As you can see, Julia Marcell cuts quite a colourful figure on stage:

I've caught a bit of Julia Marcell's music here and there over the last few years (my favourite tune being 'Manners') with me kind of quite liking her without ever giving her the sustained listening she obviously deserves.
 

True to form, I only caught about 30 minutes of the Julie Marcell set here, as I was multi-tasking, watching somebody else on the main stage and getting a beer in.

Skunk Anansie Live at Warsaw Orange Festival 3rd June 2016

Not that mad on Skunk Anansie but after a quick drink, I thought I'd have a walk down to the main stage to catch some of their set, and I'm glad I did.

The first few tunes were quite heavy and vocalist Skin, in particular, got the crowd whipped-up.

Was easy to see that Skin is a great frontwoman as she 'played' with the cameramen which was really good fun.

'Weak' was always going to be my favourite tune, but another song that was always going to catch my attention was 'God Loves Only You' which Skin dedicated to all 'religious fanatics':

Obviously, both the thematic message and the backdrop on stage made this tune interesting:

However, after the song, I couldn't help but reflect on why so many bands and artists are willing to have a go at religion in general without pinpointing the obvious that the vast majority of religious fanatics come from Sunni Islam.  Guess that the latter is never done because bands and artists value their lives, this being perfectly understandable, of course.

There was a nice visual backdrop-musical unity throughout the whole of the Skunk Anansie set.

Not far from the end of the 90-minute or so set, I started retreating to get another beer, more than happy that I'd gone down to the main stage to catch Skunk Anansie:

Sorry Boys: Warsaw Orange Festival Pictures

Nice few shots from Polish band Sorry Boys at Warsaw Orange Festival on June 3rd:

Recognised a few of the tunes such as 'Salty River' and 'Evolution (St. Theresa)'.

Saw Sorry Boys a few years ago at (the now closed-down) Warsaw Basen, so I knew it'd be a good idea to catch them again.
