Tharros (Sardinia): The Ruins Next To The Sea

Here I'm walking through the Phoenician ruins, gazing towards the sea.

Tharros (Sardinia): Church of San Giovanni

Had just seen the ancient Phoenician ruins at Tharros, and ran into this, the incredible, old church of San Giovanni:

Have just read that the 'core' of this church dates back to the 6th century.

These pictures capture something of the power and intensity of the mistral wind that we encountered at Tharros.

On several occasions, I thought I was going to get blown over:

But, all in all, the heavy winds and crashing waves added something extra, something mysterious to the place.

Sardinia: Recurring Sun Image

This sun image, seen in a cafe toilets at Tharros above, seemed to cheerfully follow us all round Sardinia.

Alghero (Sardinia): Madonna and Child

We entered Alghero old town near the tower above from the harbour.  Passing through an archway, we couldn't help but notice this wonderful 'Madonna and Child':

With Alghero's Catalonian background, I sense, rightly or wrongly, that this may be more of a Catalonian/Spanish 'Madonna and Child' rather than an Italian one.

Sardina: Alghero Harbour

Quick few shots from Alghero harbour.

 

What struck me about Alghero is that it seemed incredibly flat after visiting such places as Castelsardo (Sardinia) and Bonifacio (Corsica) where the old towns were built on the top of hills.
