Lynyrd Skynyrd Live at Warsaw Torwar 3rd May 2015
Finally got to see Lynyrd Skynyrd last night. Made the mistake of looking up the setlists for the gigs immediately preceding this one (checking the gigs out on Youtube too, of course) so I knew more or less/exactly what was coming ('Workin for the MCA'; 'The Needle and the Spoon'; 'Simple Man' etc. and, of course, 'Sweet Home Alabama' and 'Freebird').
Still it was great to finally catch Lynyrd Skynyrd:
Saw Ricky Medlocke four times with Blackfoot (one of my favourite bands) back in the early 1980s (three times at Manchester Apollo; once at Castle Donington):
Happy to have caught all the guitarists in unison below:
And the shot below seems to catch the age-long essence of the band, playing for those who've gone before:
And Johnny Van Zant is a good friendly frontman:
Incredible facial features from Mr. Medlocke below:
Was always going to focus on catching Ricky Medlocke, as Gary Rossington is almost impossible to catch with the black cowboy hat on.
And finally, during 'Freebird', the mirrorball created a great effect:
And so I got to see Lynyrd Skynyrd but the place was half empty. Can't help but feel that the concert promoter may've 'dropped a clanger' with this through the expensive ticket prices. Another 'strange touch', again probably from the concert promoter: beer being sold in the hallway, but people not being allowed to take it into the concert hall (not great anthropology). Still, on a more positive note, it was good to finally get to see Lynyrd Skynyrd even in 'dry' conditions.
