Rila Monastery, Bulgaria

My cousin Mike recently sent me this picture of the (Eastern Orthodox) Monastery of St. Ivan of Rila which (I've just found out) lies in the Rila Mountains, just over 70 miles or so to the south of the Bulgarian capital, Sofia.

Guess it's this area where Mike and his mates go snowboarding every year.  Just read that the Rila Monastery dates back to the 10th century, and, unsurprisingly (judging from the picture), is one of Bulgaria's biggest tourist attractions.

Really like the way that the monastery merges into the mountain background in Mike's picture.  Hope to possibly get down to Bulgaria some time this year.
