And, alas, here are my final few shots from the wonderfully interesting Whiddy Island:
Above, there is the small harbour with a few small boats docked in.
Below, there is the Whiddy pub, the first building that greets you when you land on the island. Had a really nice pint of Smithwicks IPA (and watched a game of hurling or Gaelic football) here while waiting for the ferry back in the afternoon:
Finally, to take us back to the Bantry mainland, there was the ferry itself. To cap things off nicely, my good friend Dave Dealy told me that the skipper of the ferry was called Shamrock (you couldn't have scripted it any better, could you?):
Enjoyed a really fantastic Sunday afternoon on Whiddy Island. Many thanks to a wonderful lady (originally from Blackpool), a friend of Jean Dealy, who drove us to and pointed us in the right direction to see the main things on the island.
Hi pat
ReplyDeleteSorry for the intrusion, but could I ask does Jean Dealy originate from bury? Ive been searching for her for years but had no luck.
