Yes Live at Warsaw Sała Kongresowa 2nd June 2014

Saw Yes at the Sała Kongresowa in Warsaw last night, and, as expected, it was a masterclass in musical proficiency.

For me, the song of the night had to be 'Awaken' (from 'Going for the One'), as it just had a sublime impact.

About the venue, I just don't like the Sała Kongresowa:  yes, the place is beautiful, but it's hardly cut out for Rock concerts, and, in my experience (especially at a Kraftwerk gig years ago), the staff there can border on being (pedantic) cretins.

But, alas the band, and Yes can light up any place.  Never really been a fan of 'Close To the Edge', but no sooner had it started than it was gone, a sure sign that I'd really enjoyed seeing the whole album done live.

Which other tunes did I really enjoy?  Well, I've always loved 'Starship Trooper' off the 'Yes Album', and 'Parallels' and 'Wondrous Stories' off 'Going for the One', so all of these went down a treat.

Below, keyboard player Geoff Downes is saying goodbye to the crowd at the end of the show:

About 10-12 years ago, I saw Yes at the same place with the classic (Anderson-Howe-Squire-Wakeman-White) line-up, and it was magical, and last night was more of the same with Geoff Downes and vocalist Jon Davison fully playing their parts.

And, finally (above), a perhaps surprising nice word for the Sała Kongresowa:  some of that inner decor really is stunning.
