The 'Spirit of Portland' Statue
Here, I just tried to capture the mood and atmosphere of climbing up towards and passing the 'Spirit of Portland' statue, situated at Priory Corner alongside the main road going up from Underhill to Tophill.
Have just read that the statue, created by Joanna Szuwalska and officially unveiled in August 2000, is made of Portland stone depicting a fisherman (on a lerret boat) and quarryman as representatives of Portland's two main traditional industries.
Before reaching the statue, I encountered some wonderful views of Chesil Beach between houses as I was making my way upwards:
Lower down, I loved the way the houses almost looked as if they were built upon one another:
