A French Bulldog Mural

Passed this French bulldog mural on a garage door in Warsaw, while out on a walk the other Sunday.

Always like to go for a walk after attending the Old Latin Mass on a Sunday.

Focus - Warsaw Klub Hybrydy (24-03-23)

What a great way to spend a Friday evening: watching Focus at the Klub Hybrydy in Warsaw:

Full credit to the band for doing about a two-and-a-half set that was nicely divided up into two parts by a drinks break.

The place was so packed that for the first half of the show I could only see Thijs van Leer and Menno Gootjes on stage, but after the break, I got into a better position where I could see Pierre van der Linden too:

Don't usually take that much notice of drummers but it's a different case with van der Linden, he's truly gifted at his craft.

Below, there's a couple of shots showing how transfixed the crowd were during Hocus Pocus:

At this point, I had no view of the stage as I'd just got back from having a leak.

But somehow, I managed to jockey myself into a decent central position near the bar, where I could see all the band (including bassist, Udo Pannekeet):

Really enjoyed this 50th Anniversary Celebration with Focus, especially the more laid-back tunes like Focus 7; Le Tango; and the sublime Le Catedrale De Strasbourg.

Previous to this gig, I'd only seen Focus twice, doing shorter sets at the New Day Festival in south-west England, so it was nice to see the band indoors doing a longer set.

Have really enjoyed Focus each time I've seen them, to be honest.

Can remember listening to them back in the 1970s, a friend used to always play Hocus Pocus and Harem Scarem, so I'm glad I've finally caught them live a few times over the last few years.

Houses of the Old Generals

A friend once explained to me that these rather big houses down near the Citadel wall in Warsaw had once been the homes of different army generals.

The big houses stand at different points in a quiet square.

Sadly, this last one here has been soiled with a lot of graffitti:

FAUN - Warsaw Klub Niebo (10-03-23)

A mass of hands held widely aloft nearing the end of a wonderful evening with FAUN at Warsaw Klub Niebo last Friday.

And the band taking well-earned plaudits after a great set which included Andro; Baldur; Galdra etc.

Been to quite a few gigs at the Klub Niebo over the last few years, but this was the first time that I realised that there is a balcony there:

Managed to get a great view of the band from up on the balcony.

The short staircase leading up to the balcony:

And again, the great view on offer up there:

And another shot of the raised hands of appreciation for the band:

It really was a great evening.

Waiting for Spring

Kotek looking out of the window and patiently waiting for spring to come round.

Below, he looks nicely at home in one of his boxes:

Passing a Georgian Place

Passed this Georgian place in the Wola district of Warsaw the other day, think it doubles up as a shop and restaurant.

Never really tried Georgian food, must give it a try as everybody says it is good.

Passing an Allotment

Passing an allotment area near the Arkadia shopping centre in Warsaw.

Guess that the allotments will be coming back to life in the near future, with spring being hopefully on the horizon.

Gothic Sundown

A Gothic sundown from last Sunday evening.

The beauty of the moment made the place look like a watercolour.

Penguin Bin

A brilliant penguin bin, designed to encourage kids to put their rubbish in the right place:

Whoever designed this was a genius, I think.

Silver Birch at Sundown

Had to get a shot of this tall, slim silver birch tree:

It just blended in with the sundown sky perfectly.
