A Hospital Church in Kraków

While getting slightly lost visiting Krakow Old Town, we came across this beautiful hospital church (a church built right next to and sometimes connected to a hospital).

The interior of the church was incredible.

Not far from the hospital church, we passed a few more interesting buildings, including the one below:

Plus the very steep-looking church below:

And the strange-coloured, old train part below:

Wobbler Arriving in Kraków

After an almost three-hour, very early morning train ride from Warsaw, we arrived in Krakow, with Wobbler being pictured in front of the old (now unused) train station building above.

Krakow train station is now massive and thoroughly modernised, connected to a massive shopping centre.

On the way to the Old Town, we found ourselves looking at great old buildings, some of which looked redundant now:

The Old Opera building seemed to be in good nick, but I'm not sure if it still functions as an opera house, as some heavy drinkers hovered outside it:

Really like the outside Marian Altar which lies at the entrance to the Old Town from the Barbican:

Kraków Riverside

Have always liked Krakow riverside, it just nicely offers a break from all the British stag parties in the Old Town.

Really like the building below which kind of signals the way to the riverside:

Can remember first visiting Krakow about 25 years ago and also looking across in awe at this building.

Fun Lovin' Criminals - Warsaw Progresja Outside Stage (26-05-23)

Thoroughly enjoyed watching Fun Lovin' Criminals at the Progresja Outside Stage (Letnia Scena) last night:

Over the last five decades, I've seen thousands of bands, and I've got to say that The Fun Lovin' Criminal is one of the best ever 'coming on songs' I've ever seen, it immediately creates a great atmosphere.

And the set was great from start to finish as King of New York; Korean Bodega; Loco; Shake It Loose; Southside; Smoke 'Em, and other beautifully balmy tunes were gratefully received by an appreciative audience.

And of course, Love Unlimited followed by Scooby Snacks were perfect closing out tunes to a fantastic live set.

This was the first time I'd seen the Fun Lovin' Criminals (better late than never) and I was massively impressed, it was magic from start to finish.

Almost forgot to mention: the Climax Blues Band classic, Couldn't Get It Right, may've been my favourite tune of the night, it was done brilliantly.

Hats off to the Progresja too, as the Outside Stage is a fantastic concert setting.

Wobbler at the Riverside

During Wobbler's trip to Warsaw, he followed several bridges at the riverside, as small boats passed by:

And while building work was being done:

The riverside seems to have been developed quite well in Warsaw.

The Pigeon Feeder

Nice shot of a pigeon (and sparrow) feeder at the Old Market Square in Warsaw Old Town.

Saw him feeding the birds by hand while I was visiting Warsaw Old Town with my old friend, Wobbler, who was over from my hometown of Bury, Lancashire (north-west England):

Xiu Xiu - Warsaw Hydrozagadka (20-05-23)

With my good friend, Wobbler, over from England, we really enjoyed Xiu Xiu at the Hydrozagadka Club in Warsaw on Saturday night.

A few years ago, I saw Jaime Stewart doing a solo set opening for Swans somewhere in Warsaw, but this was the first time I'd seen Xiu Xiu as a three-piece band and was, like all the audience, well-impressed.

The songs that stood out for me on the night were Ceremony (New Order cover); Ian Curtis Wishlist; and Apistat Commander (what a drumbeat!).

Besides the fantastic musicianship and brilliant male-female vocal interplay, what also impressed me was how drummer, David Kendrick, and multi-instrumentalist/vocalist, Angela Seo, enjoyed taking a bit of time out to chat with and have selfies done with my friend, Wobbler.

Below, Wobbler is hovering round the stage while David and Angela collect their equipment:

Yeah, this was a brilliant concert and David and Angela's pleasantness/kindness made it a special night for Wobbler.

Wobbler's Blue Raincoat in Kraków

Wobbler bought an inexpensive, plastic raincoat to keep dry in a dark and wet Krakow:

Have been to Krakow many times, but this time round, it was dark and miserable:

Despite the obviously beautiful buildings like the Opera House below:

From a Baroque Chamber Music Concert

Some shots from a Baroque Chamber music concert at the Lutheran church in Warsaw city centre.

Of course, all five singers had incredible voices.

And the Lutheran church building was beautiful in itself, especially the ceiling:

Peter Gabriel - Kraków Tauron Arena (18-05-23)

Finally got to see Peter Gabriel live, at the Tauron Arena in Krakow.

The Tauron Arena was absolutely massive, it looked like a football stadium inside:

From our side-on view, the visual side of things wasn't great, but the sound seemed spot on:

Thought that the new material, especially Panopticom, was excellent live.

And of course, it was great to hear old favourites like Digging in the Dirt; Don't Give Up; Sledgehammer etc.

Still can't get over the size of the Tauron Arena:

For older people, those steep steps were a bit of a perilous climb.

The Proxima Dinosaur

Must've been past this dinosaur model many times but this was the first time I took any real notice of it.

You pass it on the way to the Proxima concert place in Warsaw, near the blocks of student accommodation.

Guess it adds some kind of character to the place.

MONO / GGGOLDDD - Warsaw Proxima (7-05-23)

This was a great Sunday evening out, a double headliner, MONO and GGGOLDDD at the Proxima in Warsaw.

It was the second time I'd seen MONO and this time round I found them a colossus live:

Tune of the night had to be the epic, not far short of 20-minute version of Com (?) which magically closed out the show.

Also enjoyed the recent material from Pilgrimage of the Soul (Riptide; Imperfect Things; and Innocence), but it was the older tunes like Halcyon (Beautiful Days) and, of course, crowd favourite, Ashes in the Snow that mesmerised me.

So happy that I got to see MONO again.

The same was true with GGGOLDDD (formerly spelt in a more conventional way), the first time I'd seen them was in about 2017 so it was good to catch up with them:

Think that the GGGOLDDD vocalist, Milena Eva, has an incredible low voice, it kind of works hypnotically with the experimental/industrial sound of the band.

Strawberry Supper and I Won't Let You Down from the (obviously dark) This Shame Should Not Be Mine album were my favourite tunes of the GGGOLDDD set.

Think that both MONO and GGGOLDDD are evolving into fascinating bands, was great to catch up with both again live.

Cherry Blossom Spring

Always like to see the cherry blossom coming out.

It's kind of Spring's way.

Good to see other tree flowers sprouting up.

The colour cheers up the last menories of winter

Kotek's Incredible Paw

An incredible shot of Kotek's paw taken when he was lying on an English Language coursebook, near my computer workplace:
