Zamosc: Heading towards the Old Town

Passed this beautiful wooden building again on my way from Zamosc bus station to the Old Town:

Nothing out of the ordinary here, but still such buildings caught my eye, they had something, a bit of character perhaps:

And from the building below, I started to catch the Old Town in the distance:

A few wooden houses I came across near the Zamosc bus station recently:

Between the Buried and Me (and Leprous) Live at Warsaw Stodola 19th February 2017

Enjoyed Between the Buried and Me more than I expected last night.

As often said, their music is incredibly difficult to define.

But at times, I kind of found myself thinking it was something akin to Supertramp mixed in with fast growling/grunting parts.

Really like 'The Coma Machine' so it was nice to hear this tune live last night.

Was always going to like Leprous and so it proved to be.

Glad to have caught Leprous for the first time live.

Warsaw: A Pleasant Street

Really enjoyed walking down this street in Warsaw.  All the houses were white and almost intertwined with old trees.

Just passing above the snowy platforms and tracks at Gdanski train station in Warsaw:

Warsaw: Guns N' Roses Gdansk Concert Posters

Couldn't help but notice these advertisements for the upcoming Guns N' Roses gig in Gdansk, as they seemed to illuminate the darkness:

Saw Guns N' Roses at Castle Donington in 1988 when the band were dynamite on stage.  Can remember just sitting on the grass with a mate, and seeing people, from all directions, running madly down towards the front of the stage.  A smiling, bearded stranger even stopped and asked:  "Why the f&ck are you not going down to the front?  It's Guns N' f&ckin Roses!".  Little did anybody know that two people would tragically  lose their lives in the madness.

Then saw Guns N' Roses at Maine Road, Manchester in 1992.  Faith No More and Soundgarden were both fantastic.  Then we waited literally hour after hour for Guns N' Roses to take the stage.  Within half an hour or so of this, me and my mates were on the bus making our way back to Bury to get a last couple of pints at the Royal pub.

Warsaw: Looking at the Dunkel

Outside Biernalle at Arkadia, it's about -10, and I'm looking through the window at a vat of dunkel (dark beer).

A Gem of a Song

Like many people, I was saddened to hear of the recent passing away of John Wetton (King Crimson; UK; Asia etc.).

In response, I started exploring the John Wetton material I wasn't familiar with and found this gem:  'In the End' by Icon (John Wetton and Asia bandmate, Geoff Downes).

1976: A Monumental Year

Like most British people, when I think of 1976, the first thing that springs to mind is the famous heatwave from that year.  I was only 10 at the time, but can clearly remember it.

When I think a little deeper, I can also recall some interesting sporting events: Southampton upsetting Man. Utd 1-0 in the FA Cup Final; Borg beating Nastase in straight sets in the Wimbledon Final; and Sugar Ray Leonard dazzling everybody with his boxing skills at the Montreal Olympics.

However, I mainly think that 1976 is a monumental year in human history because it's the year that Rush's '2112' (breakthrough) album was released:

Dedicated to the great libertarian philosopher (freethinker), Ayn Rand, this album ensured the survival of, for me, what would go on to be the greatest (Rock or otherwise) band to ever grace the planet.  Truth be known, I was only introduced to '2112' and Rush in about 1978 by a friend, Andy Hawkins.  Still feel indebted to Andy about this.

Warsaw: Cinnamon Coffee

A very nice cinnamon coffee I had somewhere in Warsaw last week.  Enjoyed it a lot more than I'd expected.

Warsaw: Plac Wilsona Metro Station Shot

Never tire of passing through Plac Wilsona metro station as it almost reminds me of a spaceship or space station.

Trentemoller Live at Warsaw Progresja 5th February 2017

Really glad I got to this last night, wasn't in the mood for a concert to be honest, and literally got there a couple of minutes before Trentemoller took the stage.

The band came on with my favourite instrumental tune of theirs, 'November'.

The only shot I got of the keyboard maestro,  Anders Trentemoller, was here as he was briefly venturing away from the keyboards with a tambourine:

If truth be known, a few months ago, I'd never heard of Trentemoller, but when I saw their name on the Progresja concert schedule, I checked them out and immediately liked them (think that Marie Fisker has an incredibly beautiful voice, and have come to really like her solo stuff too).

The concert last night itself, a nice balance fluctuating between the longer (kind of Prog meets Ethereal) instrumental tunes and shorter, melodic, alternative/dance-type tunes.  Yeah, I like it when things are eclectic with plenty of subtle changes of mood.

From afar, also found the subtle stage show interesting, live music is an audio-visual thing, after all:

Always like to spend the first half of a gig down near the front, and then retreat further back for a couple of beers.

The band taking in their well-earned applause at the end of the set:

Warsaw: Academy of Fine Art Building

Had always wondered what this fine building/enclosure was, and recently discovered it was  the Academy of Fine Art.

The Academy of Fine Art is situated on Krakowskie directly opposite the main entrance gate to Warsaw University.

A few weeks ago I'd passed the same building by a side street entrance, and, not knowing what the building was, had taken a picture:

Now find it highly appropriate that this majestic building belongs to the Academy of Fine Art.

Warsaw: Heading towards Arkadia

Quick shot taken while walking from metro Gdanski to Arkadia, seems to represent the individual's search for meaning.

Warsaw: The Corner of a City Centre Building

Don't exactly know why, but the corner of this building, not far from the Lutheran church in Warsaw city centre, caught my eye:

Warsaw: Approaching the Carmelite Church on Krakowskie

Here, from underneath some small arches, I'm approaching the Carmelite church on Krakowskie:

Because I've passed this way so many times, it's easy to forget just how stunningly beautiful the Carmelite church on Krakowskie is:
