Warsaw Zoo: An Elephant Drinking Water

Nice few shots of an elephant drinking water at Warsaw Zoo:

In most of these shots, the great creature can be seen using its trunk to get the water:

A Bydgoszcz Beer

Thought that this Bydgoszcz beer would wash my aubergine hummus down well, and I was right, it was wonderful.

Aubergine Hummus

A very nice aubergine hummus that I had over the weekend.  Might not look much, but it was very rich and surprisingly filling.

Warsaw Zoo: The Rhinos

Above, the rhino seems to be enjoying the sunshine, while below, another seems to be enjoying taking a dip:

Follakzoid Live at Warsaw Pardon To Tu 26th June 2016

Couple of shots of Chilean psychaedelic band, Follakzoid, from last night's gig at Warsaw Pardon To Tu:

Only discovered Follakzoid a couple of months ago; recognised more or less all of the hypnotic-type tunes without being able to give the name of any of them.

Below, a poster on the toilet wall giving the Pardon To Tu concert schedule for June:

And below, the drum kit just after the Follakzoid set had finished:

It was sauna-type heat inside the small Pardon To Tu, and below people are queueing for a much-needed beer after the gig:

Warsaw Zoo: Sleeping Otter

Nice shot of an otter taking a midday nap at Warsaw Zoo.

Warsaw Zoo: Polish Bison

Couple of shots of the Polish bison which seem to have a wonderful beard:

Warsaw Zoo is well worth a visit for looking at the buffalo-type creatures: the buffalo; yak; and here the Polish bison.

Warsaw Zoo: The Yak

Here's a few shots of the yak from Warsaw Zoo.

Can remember seeing a Tibetan film at the now closed-down Femina cinema in Warsaw, where the yak seemed to be the central characters.

Have just quickly read that besides Tibet, the yak may be found in Mongolia and Russia.

Warsaw Zoo: The Mountain Goat

Here, one of the unexpected stars from last weekend's trip to Warsaw Zoo, the mountain goat.

Warsaw Zoo: The Buffalo

One of my favourite animals, the buffalo:

Can remember seeing herds of buffalo roaming free near the Great Salt Lake when I visited Utah in 2008.

Warsaw Zoo: Gorilla Having Lunch

Managed to zoom in on this gorilla having lunch.

Warsaw Zoo: Young Llama

Another enduring image from my recent trip to Warsaw Zoo:  a young llama looking perfectly at peace.

And below, one of the young llama's older colleagues was curious about what I was doing with my camera:

Warsaw Zoo: Two Swimming Hippos

Another enduring image from my visit to Warsaw Zoo, two hippos swimming elegantly together:

Just skimming the surface:

Swimming in tandem, as a pair:

Warsaw Zoo: Elephant House Ceiling

Some nice shots of the elephant house ceiling at Warsaw Zoo here:

Have visited Warsaw Zoo a few times, but this is the first time I've ever noticed how eye-catching the elephant house ceiling is.

Warsaw Zoo: Penguin Social Life

Found myself observing penguin anthropology for about 20 mins at Warsaw Zoo yesterday:

They seemed intent on negotiating how to go about things in a group, with, at different times, various leaders giving the final decision to go in the water for the fish or not:

After the leader, most of the rest followed, but when some came out of the water with fish in their mouths and dropped them, a few others were lying in wait to steal the fish.

Have often heard it said that penguins have a social life mirroring that of humans, and there did seem to be a clear resemblance.

Warsaw (Poland): A Curious Building

From time to time, I pass this building, positioned somewhere between the Arkadia shopping centre and Marymont metro station:

I know the right side of the building is a church, but it's the left side of the building, where the bus is near above, which makes me curious, not knowing whether it's a convent or in another way connected to the church, or not connected to the church at all.

Have just never got round to answering this question.

Warsaw (Poland): A Penguin Doing the Shopping

Love this blackboard which I saw in the fresh fish section of a Polish supermarket.

It seems to be a nice piece of irony with a penguin thinking about what food to buy (beans, pierogi etc.).

Warsaw (Poland): Crossing the River

A quick flash of a mobile photo: crossing over the river on a tram, on my way to the Dead Meadow gig at the Klub Hydrozogadka last Friday.

Warsaw (Poland): Passing Another War Memorial

Passed this war memorial the other day.

Wherever you go in Warsaw, you'll find lots of such war memorials on the streets.

With the ageing process, they blend in with the colour of the streets, they're natural parts of the streets, that's the way it is.

Another Good Połczyńskie Beer

Another great Połczyńskie beer here, this time the 5% Słodowe.  This smooth, natural-tasting beer is best served ice-cold for a really refreshing taste, especially on a nice, balmy, summer evening.

Haken (Rendezvous Point and Arkentype) Live at Warsaw Klub Progresja 11th June 2016

Really enjoyed Haken at Warsaw Klub Progresja, high-quality Prog for a Saturday night, just the tonic.

My favourite tunes of a great set were '1985' and 'Cockroach King'.

Have only become familiar with Haken over the last year or two and have come to really like their unique sound.

Find it difficult to describe their 'brand' of Prog, but their music kind of reminds of a synthesis of Gentle Giant, King Crimson and Leprous (if this is imagineable).

Anyway, a 100-minute or so set simply flashed by with the crowd in awe of wonderful musicianship.  Below, the band are about to take a bow at the end of the set:

Got up to the Progresja at about 7.30 last night expecting Norwegian Prog band Rendezvous Point to be on at this time, but things seemed to be running behind schedule, so I ended up watching another Norwegian band Arkentype too:

With all the choppy guitar work, Arkentype are not really my kind of thing.

But with their non-stop energy, they were interesting.

During one song, the band members sequentially made their way down from the stage to play on the floor encircled by a happy, smiling crowd:

Then after Arkentype, I got to see Rendezvous Point:

Would love to see Rendezvous Point do a 90-minute set, as the 45 minutes served up last night had me gagging for more.
