Shaftesbury: St. James Street

Everywhere we looked in Shaftesbury, there seemed to be some old-worldly, English enchantment, and St. James Street was no exception.

The courtyard just off St. James Street (above) was one thing that caught my eye.  Another  thing was the Ye Olde Two Brewers pub below:

This pub was a nice place to catch a pint on the way to the campsite which lay outside the town.

The Shaftesbury Cat

Met this exotic-looking cat while looking round the Bimport district of Shaftesbury.

There seemed to be a lot of old (medical-type) buildings in Bimport:

Bury (Lancashire): Interesting Houses on Walmersley Road

Was walking down Walmersley Road and felt a need to take a few shots of some of the wonderful houses there, starting with the house on the corner of where Bury General Hospital used to stand above.

The next house that caught my eye (above and below) is sometimes the subject of discussion on an 'Old Bury' Facebook site:

I'm not surprised as it is generally pleasing to the eye, everywhere you look, there seems to be interesting, old houses to look at on Walmersley Road from the Sundial down to where what was once St. Joseph's club (not the house below, of course).

Coming out of Bolton Train Station

Having arrived at Bolton train station after a train journey from Manchester Airport, the first thing I saw across the road was a disused Anglican church.

Not many seconds later, I saw the signs of somebody living (or begging) on the streets:

Passing through Lower Bockhampton Again

Have passed through Lower Bockhampton quite a few times, but this was the first time, I managed to get some decent shots of the thatched cottage before the bridge leading out of the village.

If my memory serves me right, this thatched cottage is the model for the pub in Thomas Hardy's 'Under the Greenwood Tree'.

And just before the bridge leading out of Lower Bockhampton, there is the path that Hardy used to love treading down towards Dorchester:

Eyre Square, Galway: Something That Caught My Eye

The strange-looking structure in the foreground above caught my eye in Eyre Square, Galway, so I had to find out what it was about.

Have just read that it was built in honour of the Galway hookers (small, traditional fishing boats used in Galway Bay).

Eastern Poland: A Grave

My wife's late grandmother's brother's grave in a village cemetery in eastern Poland.
