The picture postcard Stogursey Castle was well worth a visit.
Stogursey was only a mile or two from our caravan campsite near Fiddington village (in rural Somerset)
Have just read that Stogursey Castle is a medieval building of which most now lies in ruins except for the spectacular Thatched Gatehouse, of course:
From all angles, Stogursey Castle Gatehouse (and the surrounding moat) looked incredible:
Have also just read that the Thatched Gatehouse is now used for holiday rental.
The Castle, probably first built in the 11th or 12th century, also seems to have a rich history of being destroyed and rebuilt.
One thing is for sure, the remaining Thatched Gatehouse and surrounding grounds are mightily pleasing to the eye.
All in all, deep rural Somerset has many charms to be discovered.
