Visiting Nether Stowey

Like many people, I guess, we mainly visited Nether Stowey, deep in rural Somerset, to see Coleridge Cottage where the great poet lived between 1797 and 1800 and wrote amongst other things, Kubla Khan and The Rime of the Ancient Mariner.

When we passed Coleridge Cottage, it wasn't open so we just looked at it outside:

Immediately opposite the Cottage stands an aptly named pub, the Ancient Mariner:

Unfortunately, we didn't have time for a pint, as we were heading towards Alfoxton Hall, where Wordsworth and his sister, Dorothy, stayed for a year to be near their friend, Coleridge.

Before reaching Coleridge Cottage, we passed a few interesting buildings in Nether Stowey village itself:

And on the outskirts of Nether Stowey, we saw and went inside the Church of St. Mary the Virgin:

Upon seeing this church, my travelling companion and I started talking about how a young Coleridge had walked 10 miles there and back to preach at the Unitarian church in Taunton.
