Through quickly reading the wonderful collection of Thomas Hardy poems (below) on a Warsaw-Madrid flight recently, I learnt that Hardy had a mischevious fox terrier called Wessex (above).
When Wessex died in 1926, Hardy had the dog buried at the pet cemetery at Max Gate:
