Hawkshead-Blelham Tarn Walk

After the short trip to Esthwaite Water, I found myself doing a 3-4 mile walk from Hawkshead to Wray Castle, taking in Blelham Tarn at about the midway point.

The start of the walk wasn't really that special, just walking along a few well-signposted, country paths:

But things started hotting up as the mountains came into view:

And not long after, Blelham Tarn could be seen in the distance:

The views above and below were my two favourite ones from the walk to Blelham Tarn and beyond to Wray Castle (and the shore of Windermere):

Have just read that Blelham Tarn is drained by the short Blelham Beck into Lake Windermere.

The tarn also contains brown trout; eel; perch; pike; and roach.

Moreover, much of the tarn shore is made up of reed-bed, making it a great habitat for waterfowl.

However, this meant that I was often restricted to viewing the tarn from a distance:

Still, I was halfway through a highly pleasant, easy enough walk.

In Hawkshead village centre, a map of Hawkshead and the surrounding area:

Had pushed me towards doing the walk to Blelham Tarn and beyond (Wray Castle and the shore of Windermere).
