Head for the Hills Day 1 (2023): The Bands

The first band we saw on stage at Head for the Hills was Izzie Walsh:

Had checked her out beforehand, and knew that her kind of Americana would be well worth watching:

It was early doors but the crowd started to pick up during the set.

And next up, it was the turn of Katherine Priddy who I was looking forward to seeing:

My favourite tunes of her set were the well-known Letters from a Travelling Man and Icarus, a new song.

The pictures above give a sense of the Burrs setting, not bad at all, but not as good as the old Ramsbottom Cricket Ground venue, of course.

As the day wore on, we increasingly spent more time at the Brown Cow pub as it was a pain in the backside having our small rucksacks checked by unsmiling yellow-vested, gate officials.

Still, we caught about half of the Gentlemen of Few set:

Including a good version of the old ELO classic, Mr. Blue Sky.

And the back end of the Cut Capers set:

Who were whipping up quite an atmosphere with the crowd (what I heard, I really liked).

And finally, The Slow Readers Club, who were late headliner replacements for The Proclaimers:

When The Slow Readers Club first came on stage, I was in the Brown Cow, but soon found myself gravitating back into the Festival, as the band sounded great.

Don't know that much about The Slow Readers Club, but happily recognised several tunes, including How Could You Know.

My friend, Alfie, was right, The Slow Readers Club were a great band live, I really enjoyed them.

Musically, it was a very good day, with the rural setting offering some kind of nice views too:
