Visiting Chipping (Trough of Bowland)

This was definitely a big bonus during my summer trip, after the Old Latin Mass at Our Lady of Victories in Preston, I received a surprise ride out into the Trough of Bowland area.

We first stopped off at the picturesque village of Chipping for Sunday lunch and a couple of pints of Real Ale.

Have just read that Chipping has a population of 1,000 people, with the village's history dating back 1,000 years.

Chipping has three churches: St. Mary's Catholic Church; St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church; and a Congregational chapel.

Couldn't help but be impressed with the St. Bartholomew's church building and the steps leading up to it:

Have just read that the tower of St. Bartholomew's dates back to 1450 and the rest of the church to 1506 when the church building was completed.

It was also nice, of course, to see the Our Lady of Lourdes grotto scene outside a Catholic school in Chipping:

One of my friends explained that by travelling out into the Trough of Bowland, we were entering what was Catholic recusant country during the Reformation.
