In Winckley Square, Preston

After the Old Latin Mass at Our Lady of Victories, we were walking through Winckley Square:

When a friend got an important phone call.

And I noticed a statue:

And then an important-looking notice:

It explained that Sir Robert Peel had twice been Prime Minister during Queen Victoria's reign, and that he'd been very popular in Preston due to his support of the Catholic Emancipation Act of 1829 and his role in the repeal of the Corn Laws that had kept the price of grain and bread high.

On a late Sunday morning, Winckley Square looked bright and green:

Have always viewed Winckley Square as a kind of refined place, probably because it's so near to Our Lady of Victories.
