Constanta Casino (Romania)
Here, we're heading towards the famous Casino building on Constanta seafront:
Just read that the Casino building was first commisioned by King Carol I, and built between 1904 and 1910:
From a distance, it looks like a jewel, but as you draw closer, it becomes clear that it is now closed and somewhat dilapidated:
Just read a brief history of the building: after its initial life as a casino, it was briefly used as a hospital during the 2nd World War and then as a restaurant during communist times.
However, in 1990, it was formally closed down. In the picture above, you can just about see two guards sitting down in front of the 'haunted-looking' building.
Despite this, there does appear to be some good news, as the EU is said to have given some money for the building to be restored, which should start this autumn (let's hope so - it would be great to see this incredible building come alive again).
