Started Day One at Cropredy with a hearty breakfast at the Village Hall, the sausage and bacon was incredible, all locally produced.
After breakfast, we had a quick look at the Brasenose Fringe:
And at the campsite, listened to the Fairport Convention acoustic set, which sounded really good, before heading into the arena itself for Kathryn Tickell & The Darkening:
Really enjoyed the opening Northumbrian tunes and the song about Lindisfarne, the Christian monastic island in the north-east of England.
Like how the Cropredy side-screens focus on the different band members:
After Kathryn Tickell, it was the turn of Tony Christie, with his great band:
Somehow failed to get a shot of Tony, himself, as I was fully absorbed in his fantastic set which often took me back to my childhood (Amarillo; Avenues and Alleyways; What I Did I Did for Maria etc.).
Watching Tony Christie kind of gave me an idea of what it would've been like to see Elvis Presley; Frank Sinatra; Roy Orbison etc. (at Cropredy 2022, an old farmer told us that such vocalists "could really sing").
And the icing on the cake of the first day at Cropredy was seeing Rick Wakeman do Journey to the Centre of the Earth, everything worked perfectly:
And a long, extended version of Starship Trooper (Yes tune) topped things off nicely.
Have seen Rick Wakeman a few times with Yes, but this was the first time I'd seen him solo: alongside the keyboard maestro himself, his band and female singers were incredibly impressive, providing sublime self-indulgence.
