Franciscan Friar Walking in the Cloister at the Basilica of St. Francis in Assisi


Was really happy to capture something of the special calm and relaxing atmosphere of Assisi with this picture.  The Basilica of St. Francis is also quite a building in itself, as the long distance shots below show:

As a young schoolboy at a Catholic Primary (Infant) School, St. Joseph's in Paper Town (Bury, Lancashire), I'd heard great stories about St. Francis talking to the animals; visiting a Sultan on a peace mission during the Crusades; inspiring St. Clare etc., so it was great to finally visit Assisi. 




Have always valued Catholicism for giving some kind of continuity to my life amongst the flux and complexity of everything else.
