Warsaw: The Politically-'Correct' Rainbow at Plac Zbawiciela
This is one of the most contentious symbols in Warsaw. But why?
Well, once upon a time, the rainbow was a beautiful symbol of rejuvenation and regeneration after personal adversity. Of course, this is the sublime meaning behind DH Lawrence's masterpiece 'The Rainbow' (for me, the greatest novel ever written in English language).
However, the rainbow enforced on Plac Zbawiciela in Warsaw has a far more sinister meaning behind it. Plac Zbawiciela, which means 'The Square of the Saviour' (or 'The Saviour's Square') in English, contains one of the most beautiful churches in Warsaw which can be seen on the right-hand side in the pictures above and below. Moreover, more or less everybody is now aware that the rainbow image/symbol has been hijacked by Western politically-'correct' ideological movements e.g. homosexuals/lesbians; the (trans)gender movement. Thus, many Poles interpret the rainbow at Plac Zbawiciela as a Western politically-'correct' assault on their traditional Catholic culture.
Thus, it comes as little surprise that the politically-'correct' rainbow at Plac Zbawiciela regularly gets burnt down. So why does it keep getting rebuilt? Surely, it's a pure waste of money to keep rebuilding such a provocative symbol! Well, there's a simple answer to this, I think: Western politically-'correct' imperialism is determined to impose its ugly politically-'correct' ideology on central/eastern European countries like Poland.

But most Poles want and need political correctness and the rainbow should be rebuilt as many times as necessary. It no coincidence that the most conservative parties have little support from voters.
ReplyDeleteNonsense 'Olga', you're the first Pole I know to be making this strange claim. By the way, just a small technical thing: it's political-'correctness', not political correctness.
