Up until my recent trip to Szczebrzeszyn a few weeks ago, I hadn't been there for about 18 months, so this was the first time I'd seen the statue of the cricket outside the town hall.
For being incredibly difficult to pronounce as a word, Szczebrzeszyn has a mythological-type status in Polish folklore, and the cricket (small green insect) is the official symbol of this small sleepy (but relaxing) eastern Polish town.
