Stonedead Festival 2023: A Few More Thoughts

The Stonedead 2023 line up:

Have already written about Blue Öyster Cult being the main reason why I went to Stonedead.

Ended up missing Collateral and South of Salem through deciding to walk to the Festival (was a pain in the backside getting over the A-road roundabout from Newark to the Showground).

Anyway, a shot of the entrance with the tyre (an echo from Donington, of course):

A general atmosphere picture:

And the first band I got to see was Deraps, the last few tunes.

Actually caught Highway Star (Deep Purple); Hot for Teacher (Van Halen); and Ballroom Blitz (The Sweet).

Deraps were fine and the crowd greatly appreciated the nice ladies who accompanied Ballroom Blitz on stage, of course.

At a festival, there's always a band that takes you by surprise. And for me, at Stonedead 23, that band was Florence Black (the late replacements for Mason Hill):

The opening tune, Zulu, was an absolute stormer.

Don't really know Florence Black from Adam, but I'll definitely be giving them a serious listen in the future.

Next up, King King's kind of Blues Rock was perfect for halfway through a Festival day:

Waking Up was my favourite tune.

Afterwards, The Answer and Therapy? seemed to come and go (maybe due to my own dizziness).

One of my mates compared Therapy? to Stiff Little Fingers, it was an interesting point.

Enjoyed seeing Therapy? at Donington many moons ago, and, of course, Screamager brought things to life.

The highlight of The Answer set, for me, was Blood Brother, a simply brilliant (and catchy) tune.

Really enjoyed The Black Star Riders' set, with Soldierstown shining out. Jailbreak (Thin Lizzy) followed by Crazy Horses (Osmonds) was another highlight.

After Blue Öyster Cult (one of my favourite bands), it was time for a taxi or a coach:

And then a nightcap of good Polish vodka in the Newark Travelodge:
