I found Buttermere, with Fleetwith Pike in the background, an incredible place.
The lake is pretty small, only 1.25 miles long by 0.25 miles wide.
I guess that the shots below show the river Cocker running into Buttermere:
The head-on beauty of the place was almost overwhelming with a waterfall running down from above:
Really wish we'd had time to walk round Buttermere properly, especially the lake, but we were on a kind of crash-bang-wallop tour of the Lake District.
