Grasmere: By the Lake

We went for a coffee next to the Lake at Grasmere.

The cafe was in a scenic spot,  a quite pretty place:

Upon trying to pay for two white coffees, four or five-quid apiece, our money was refused:

"Sorry, we don't take cash, we only do card transactions here".

Yeah, cash payments refused in northern England, absolutely mind-boggling. But my friend had a card.

Still, the Lake was beautiful with a gentle breeze:

Think it's common knowledge that Wordsworth loved the Lake and surrounding beauty of Grasmere.

Have just read that while living at Dove Cottage, the island in the middle of the Grasmere Lake was one of Wordsworth's favourite places to visit.

As we left the cafe grounds, we saw a notice, it read something like:

"If you want to take pictures here, you need to buy something from the cafe"

All a bit cynical, and what if people only had cash?
