To Castlerigg Stone Circle

After a wonderful visit to Buttermere and Crummock Water, we took a short detour to Castlerigg Stone Circle while heading back to our campsite.

Really like the way you can freely enter Castlerigg, without all the over-the-top stuff that goes with visiting a place like Stonehenge, for example.

A brief look at the Internet reveals that Castlerigg Stone Circle is located on a hill to the east of Keswick.

And that Castlerigg is one of about 1,300 stone circles that can be found in the British Isles and Brittany in France, with them being said to date back to between 2,500 and 3,200 BC.

From within the Castlerigg Circle, it's possible to see high Lakeland peaks such as Helvellyn and Skiddaw.

Enjoyed the visit to Castlerigg Circle, it was a welcome detour.
