While in Buttermere village, I had a wonderful ham-off-the-bone with red/orange cheddar sandwich from the cafe below:
In all, the plate contained three such sandwiches accompanied by a nice crispy salad. For these days, it was also very reasonably priced.
Also in Buttermere village, we saw the hotel below, whose whitewashed walls fitted in well with the mountainous beauty behind it:

Have just read that this beautiful old school building is now the village hall in Buttermere.
